How to accept Christ

Hey fam, look, there’s so much going on with life, the world and trying to do the best we can to thrive every day. I wanted to take the time to write this out for anyone who may want to give their life to Christ, but may not know how or they may want to keep this between God and themselves, but are a little unsure of how this goes.

In order to accept Christ as your savior you must:

Confess him as your Lord and savior. Romans 10: 9&10 states:

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.”
Romans 10:9‭-‬10 NLT

  • So, make a declaration to yourself that Christ is Lord and savior over your life.

What does that mean? That means that you freely give up ownership of your life and give it to Christ. This involves actively learning Christ’s character and nature to learn to make decisions rooted in Christ and not in our own preferences, like before. It isn’t a quick change, so don’t get discouraged, you’re working on changing, just keep going!

  • Confess and repent

This is simply telling God about your sins, you don’t have to list every, single thing you’ve done, this is about acknowledging our wrongdoings and asking for His forgiveness.

Repenting isn’t confession, it’s a verb. It means to intentionally turn our backs to our old ways and move in the opposing direction. Whether it’s throwing away things, changing behaviors or disconnecting from people that can pull us back into our old lives, repenting is a continuing process in this walk.

I want you to know, that choosing Christ as savior is a daily choice. Every day, we have to decide between what we want to do and see if it aligns with Christ’s nature and His word. This isn’t a quick fix, but know it’s a great start! Be patient with yourself, allow yourself some grace and read the Bible for yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! You’ve got this!
